Anchor Hocking grew from the Hocking Glass Company, which began making glass in Lancaster, Ohio, in 1905. Its business developed around affordable household glassware. In 1937 Hocking merged with the Anchor Cap and Closure Corporation to form Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation. The new company combined tableware production with a substantial glass-container business, and the anchor entwined with an H became its identifying emblem.
Fire-King was one of the company’s best-known household brands. The name was registered as a trademark in 1941, and ovenware appeared in 1942. The range expanded from transparent blue pieces to opaque colours, including Jade-ite, and to decorated dinnerware, mugs and serving pieces. Fire-King appears in both block and script lettering. OVEN GLASS, OVEN WARE, MADE IN U.S.A. and the corporate name occur in different combinations on the bases.
The corporate name became Anchor Hocking Corporation in the late 1960s. Later changes separated the container operations from the household-glass business, making the distinction between Anchor Hocking and Anchor Glass Container important when reading bottle marks. Newell acquired Anchor Hocking in 1987. The household name continued through subsequent ownership changes, and the Lancaster works remained central to its manufacturing history. Fire-King was also revived for a Jade-ite range marked with the year 2000.

Federal used an F inside a shield. It does not stand for Fire-King. Anchor Hocking used an anchor combined with H or Fire-King wording.
Its H over a smaller A has no anchor. Look for the curved flukes and anchor shank on Anchor Hocking’s H emblem.
A mirrored A/G anchor identifies the separate container business. Similar names and former Anchor Hocking factories can otherwise cause confusion.
