Carlo Zucchi and Leopoldo Gori founded Gori & Zucchi in Arezzo on 15 March 1926. Their business combined goldsmithing with industrial production methods. In 1934 the firm received the identification number 1 AR, the first registered goldworking number in the province of Arezzo. Read aloud in Italian, the number and letters became the name Unoaerre. The numbered factory punch and the written company signature are separate marks and can appear together on a piece.
The factory was destroyed during the Second World War and production resumed in new premises after the war. The firm opened its Via Vittorio Veneto factory in 1948 and registered its historic oval UNO-A.R wordmark in 1957. Its products included wedding rings, gold chains, bracelets, earrings and medals. The company adopted techniques such as investment casting and worked with artists and designers while expanding its international distribution.
Ownership passed to the Morgan Grenfell fund in 1999 and subsequently returned to the founding Zucchi family. Sergio Squarcialupi acquired the business at auction in 2012. UNOAERRE continued manufacturing in Arezzo, making gold and silver jewelry, precious-metal medals, ingots and components for other jewelry businesses.
Also known as: Gori & Zucchi · Uno A Erre · UNO-A.R · UNO-A-ERRE · 1 AR · UNOAERRE Industries S.p.A.
AR alone identifies the province of Arezzo. Compare the full registration number: UNOAERRE is 1 AR, while a different number followed by AR belongs to another registrant. A 750 fineness stamp by itself does not identify this manufacturer.
