Ann Boyajian, born in Akron in 1950, earned a BFA in painting at Carnegie Mellon in 1972 and worked as an illustrator. Her hand-built red-earthenware vessels, plates and sculptures use black and white underglaze, sgraffito, transparent glaze and terra sigillata. Narrative animal motifs recur in both her ceramics and illustrated books. She was a resident artist in Harvard's ceramics programme from 2018 to 2022.
