About Beatrice Wood

Beatrice “Beato” Wood (1893–1998), born in San Francisco, began working in clay in Southern California in 1933. She studied with Glen Lukens and Gertrud and Otto Natzler and established her Ojai studio in 1947. She made loosely formed vessels, tile paintings and sculpture and developed characteristic reduction-fired lustre glazes.
