Guido Bitossi founded his artistic maiolica manufactory in Montelupo Fiorentino, Tuscany, in 1921. The family’s involvement in ceramics was older, but that date marks the establishment of the modern manufactory. Its early production drew on traditional decorative forms and classical styles. The business developed within a town whose potters had long supplied both domestic and export markets.
Aldo Londi directed a change toward modern shapes, experimental surfaces and new colors after the Second World War. He was artistic director from 1946 to 1976 and continued collaborating afterward. His work included animals, vessels, lamps and the textured blue ceramics associated with the Rimini Blu range. Ettore Sottsass began working with the company in 1955, adding another strand to its collaborations with architects and designers.
Bitossi ceramics reached American buyers through importers including Raymor and Rosenthal-Netter. The related Flavia name appears on later production, while contemporary ceramics again carry Bitossi branding. In 2003 the company introduced its Riedizioni collection, recreating selected Londi designs from the historic archive in limited editions. These reissues retain original inventory references and the historic Cav. G. Bitossi & Figli name. Production and the company archive remain associated with Montelupo Fiorentino.

The importers handled ceramics from several workshops. Their labels cannot independently identify Bitossi.
