About Cmielow
Ćmielów's origins are disputed: the source gives a traditional 1790 workshop foundation but notes research placing faience production in the early 19th century under Jacek Małachowski. After ownership changes following his death in 1821, the factory stabilized in the 1830s. Gabriel Weiss began porcelain production in the 1840s, and quality and the range of tableware and figures expanded later in the century.
The 1920s and 1930s brought Art Deco designs, including Bogdan Wendorf's Kula tea set. The factory was nationalized after the Second World War and became a centre of modern design in the 1950s and 1960s. Ćmielów's beginnings are traditionally dated to 1790, though some researchers place the start of faience production in the early nineteenth century. Porcelain production developed under Gabriel Weiss in the 1840s.
The factory became known for Rococo Revival wares and later Art Deco designs, including Bogdan Wendorf's Kula tea set. It was nationalized after World War II and became a centre of modern design in the 1950s and 1960s. Ćmielów began around 1790 under Wojtas, initially producing faience. Porcelain production began under the Weiss brothers in 1838 and stoneware was made from 1850. Faience production ended in 1882.
