About Frances Senska

Frances Senska (1914–2009) made wheel-thrown functional stoneware using locally dug clay, slips and glazes, often with wax resist. She founded the ceramics program at Montana State College in 1946 and taught there until 1973; her students included Rudy Autio and Peter Voulkos. She studied with Edith Heath, Maija Grotell and Marguerite Wildenhain, and helped establish the Montana Institute of the Arts.
