About Freiwaldau Gozdnica

Gottfried Herkner founded a porcelain factory at Freiwaldau, now Gozdnica, in 1841. It made tableware, washbasins, chamber pots, ashtrays and advertising wares. A fire destroyed the works in 1886; Hugo Schmidt rebuilt them. Bing acquired the business after the First World War. Schlesische Steinzeugwerke bought the idle works in 1931 and made stoneware pipes until production ended in 1945.
