Horace Wain established the Melba Works business in Longton in 1937. It closed during the Second World War and reopened in 1946 under his sons. It made fancy earthenware, animal figures and garden ware. Liquidators were appointed for H. A. Wain & Sons and Melba Ware (Fine Arts Division) in September 1982.
