About Hollohaza
Hollohaza began as a glassworks in 1777 and was converted to ceramic manufacture in 1831 under Count Mihály Károlyi. Ferenc Istvany expanded production in 1857. Production stopped during the First World War and resumed in 1923. Karoly Szakmary took over in 1939 and modernized the factory. Nationalized in 1948, it produced industrial porcelain insulators before artistic production resumed in 1957. A new factory opened in 1972.
