Edwin Holmes and Ralph Plant made earthenware at the Sylvester Works, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. Thomas Madew left their earlier partnership on 24 June 1884. They also retained an interest in the Waterloo Works, Hanley. After Holmes & Plant closed, the Sylvester Works were absorbed into Doulton & Co’s adjacent Nile Street works.
