Constable Series Bicentennial
James Broadhurst began manufacturing at the Crown Works, Longton, around 1860 and moved to the Portland Pottery, Fenton, around 1870. He bought the works in 1876. His sons took control in 1894. The company incorporated in 1922 with Edward Robert Roper as a partner; the Roper family owned the business by 1933 while retaining the Broadhurst name. It was re-formed as James Broadhurst & Sons (1939) Ltd. During the Second World War the business was concentrated with W. H.
Grindley, and Edward Peter Roper returned as managing director in 1945.
