James Frederick Wileman owned the earthenware factory at the Foley Potteries from 1866 and later controlled its china works. Joseph Ball Shelley became his partner at the china works in 1872. Wileman retired from that partnership in 1885 while retaining the earthenware business. He retired fully in 1892, when the original Foley Potteries closed and its contents were sold.
