John Maddock began pottery manufacture in Burslem in 1830 through Maddock & Edwards, then Maddock & Seddon, before trading alone. His son John joined in 1855 and James around 1870, giving the successive names John Maddock & Son and John Maddock & Sons. The business incorporated in 1896. It produced domestic and catering earthenware and maintained an American export business. It acquired Royal Stafford China in the late 1970s and entered receivership in December 1980.
