About J W Pankhurst & Co

James William Pankhurst made earthenware and ironstone in Hanley. After a brief partnership with the Meigh family ended in July 1850, Pankhurst continued at the Old Hall Works and also operated the Charles Street Works. & Co was added from 1852 but did not appear on every later mark. His partnership with John Dimmock ended in December 1857; a later partnership with James Meakin ended in July 1883. Johnson Bros succeeded the Charles Street business after bankruptcy.
