About James (Jim) McKinnell
James and Nan McKinnell collaborated on thrown functional pottery, glazing and decoration, commonly signing their work McKinnell. James studied ceramic engineering at the University of Washington and taught at Colorado State University from 1970 to 1987. Their glaze experiments included Nan’s copper red. James developed a portable propane-fired loose-brick, flat-top double-chamber kiln.
