Job Meigh built the Old Hall Works in Hanley in 1790 and initially worked in partnership with Peter Walthall. He continued alone after the partnership ended in 1802. His son joined in 1812, and the name Job Meigh & Son continued after the elder Meigh died in 1817. Job Meigh II retired in 1834, when his brother Charles took over.
The source associates the J M & S initials with the Zoological Sketches series, while warning that the same initials were also used by John Meir & Son.
