About John Aynsley

John Aynsley built the Portland Works in Sutherland Road, Longton, in 1861. His grandfather, also John Aynsley, had begun making lustre ware in Lane End in 1775. John Aynsley & Sons became a limited company in 1933. Waterford Glass acquired it in 1970, and it was renamed Aynsley China in 1971. The Aynsley Group bought it from Waterford in 1987 and acquired Hammersley and Palissy trade names and patterns in 1989.
