John Meir began making earthenware at the Greengates Pottery in Tunstall in 1812 and bought the works from Benjamin Adams in 1826. His son Henry later joined him, and the firm traded as John Meir & Son. The source associates impressed Meir marks with the River Fishing transferware pattern.
