About Kahla

Christian Eckhardt began porcelain production at Kahla on 27 August 1844 with 20 employees. Arzberg, Hutschenreuther and Schönwald became affiliated in 1914. Under the GDR the factory became state-owned and expanded as headquarters of VEB Feinkeramik, which included 17 factories in 1979. Post-reunification privatization was followed by bankruptcy. Günther Raithel refounded the company as KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH in 1994; the Raithel family held it from 2000.

Following privatization and bankruptcy, Günther Raithel refounded it as KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH in 1994. The source records Kahla’s foundation in 1814.

Several local factories combined around the turn of the twentieth century into a large Thuringian concern, and the business became a state enterprise after 1945.
