About Katzhutte
Christoph Hertwig, Benjamin Beyermann and Carl Birkner began building the Katzhütte porcelain factory in 1864 after an unsuccessful application in Großbreitenbach. It made doll heads, pipe parts and figures. Hertwig became sole owner in 1868. A Meuselbach branch opened in 1911. War and economic pressures narrowed the range to fine earthenware. Ernst Friedrich Hertwig led the business until 1958.
