About Lingard Webster (and Co Ltd)
Lingard, Webster & Co. made earthenware at the Swan Pottery, Tunstall. Daniel Lingard and James Webster had previously worked with James Colclough; their partnership dissolved in March 1899 and the business continued under the new name. Clarice Cliff was apprenticed there as an enameller in 1912. Manufacture moved to George Clews & Co.’s Brownhills Pottery in 1941. The company closed in 1972, and the Swan Pottery was demolished for road improvements.
