Lisa Larson was a Swedish ceramic designer and sculptor whose work included animal figures, people and individual studio pieces. She trained in Gothenburg from 1949 to 1954. Stig Lindberg invited her to Gustavsberg in 1954 for a trial year that became a 26-year association with the porcelain factory. Her designs combined rounded forms with restrained decoration and expressive faces.
At Gustavsberg she developed series including Lilla Zoo, the ABC girls and children from different parts of the world. Factory workers made and decorated the production figures, while she also created unique sculptures. The name on a production piece identifies her design; it does not mean that she personally modelled, painted or signed that particular example.
Larson left Gustavsberg in 1980 to work independently from studios in Nacka and Skåne. Her clients included Rosenthal, Duka, Höganäs and Swedish glassworks. In 1992 she founded Keramikstudion Gustavsberg with Franco Nicolosi and Siv Solin. The studio produced earlier models as well as later designs. Her work also reached a large Japanese audience through exhibitions and collaborations. Larson died in 2024; production of her designs continued after her lifetime.
