Matt Jones makes coiled and wheel-thrown wood-fired stoneware, from kitchen wares and planters to monumental vessels. His decoration uses slip trailing, oxides, salt and alkaline glazes, often with plant, bird or animal motifs. His work draws on Carolina pottery traditions as well as Chinese and Mediterranean forms. He apprenticed with Todd Piker and Mark Hewitt and established Jones Pottery in North Carolina in 1998.
