About Reinhold Merkelbach
Wilhelm Merkelbach founded the manufactory in 1843 and his son Reinhold expanded it. Toska Merkelbach managed it after Reinhold’s death; her sons took over in 1907 and worked with leading Art Nouveau designers. Goebel acquired half the business in 1971 and the remainder in 1985. The Merkelbach family and associates repurchased it in 1988. Production stopped around 2007 and successful moulds passed to Töpferei Girmscheid.
