About Royal Bonn

The Poppelsdorf faience factory at Bonn was founded in 1755 by Ferdinand von Stockhausen and Johan Jacob Kaisin. It passed through several owners; in 1836 von Recklinghausen and the Mehlem brothers took it over. It later became Steingutfabrik Franz Anton Mehlem. From 1884 it traded as Steingut-Fabrik und Kunsttöpferei F.A. Mehlem under F. Guilleaume. Royal and 1755 were added to the company mark in 1890.

Villeroy & Boch bought the factory in 1920; production changed to sanitary porcelain in 1925 and the Bonn factory closed in 1931.
