About Rudy Autio
Rudy Autio (1926–2007) made large hand-built ceramic sculptures, often closed vessels suggesting abstract human torsos. Their surfaces combine line drawings of animals and figures with colourful glazes. He was a founding resident at the Archie Bray Foundation and founded the University of Montana ceramics department, where he worked from 1957 to 1985. His practice also included murals, bronze, glass and tapestry designs.
