About Sampson Hancock (& Sons)

Sampson Hancock began potting around 1857 and established Sampson Hancock & Sons in 1891. After his death in 1900, Jabez, Harry and Arthur continued the business. It made earthenware and semi-porcelain tablewares, toilet wares and decorative ranges including Morris Ware. Bankruptcy in 1935 led to a restart as S. Hancock & Sons (Potters) Ltd at the renamed Corona Works in Hanley; the business closed in 1937.
