About Sitzendorf

Wilhelm Liebmann established the Sitzendorf factory in 1850. After an 1858 explosion it was rebuilt with Wilhelm Oertel's help. Alfred and Carl Wilhelm Voigt bought it in 1884, opened an Unterweißbach branch in 1890 and converted the business into a stock company in 1896. Financial pressures closed that branch in 1928. Reinhold Rebhan and Max Krauße helped reorganize the business in 1932.

It made war-related goods during the Second World War, came under increasing state influence in 1958 and was nationalized in 1972. After privatization in 1990, production finally stopped in 2012.
