Samuel J. Simpson established Soho Pottery in Tunstall in 1904. It moved to the Elder Works in Cobridge in August 1910. His sons Samuel E.M. and Thomas continued the business after his death in 1918. In 1944 it was renamed Simpsons (Potters) Ltd without a change in ownership or management. The firm made domestic earthenware under names including Solian Ware, Ambassador Ware and Chanticleer Ware, for British and export markets.
