John Hinks founded Royale Stratford at St. Mary’s Mill, Longton, in 1976. Incorporated as Heanor Ceramics Ltd, it became Stratford Bone China Ltd in 1978. Receivers were appointed in 1996. Hinks sold the business to Bloor Potteries in 1999 and remained a consultant, while the Royale Stratford name continued. After the business failed in 2005, he began Studio Hinks Fine Bone China at Regent Works.
