Samuel Webster Dean continued the Newport Pottery at Burslem after Edge, Malkin & Co closed in 1904. S. W. Dean Ltd was incorporated in April 1906, with the sale agreement completed in March 1909. Financial difficulties led to Dean’s bankruptcy in June 1910. J. D. Kerr registered the successor, Deans (1910) Ltd, at the same pottery.
