About Swinnertons Ltd
Bertram John Swinnerton began factoring pottery in Hanley in 1885 and started manufacturing in 1906. The company became limited in 1911. It acquired several factories and operated alongside Alcock, Lindley & Bloore after the purchase of Smith & Co in 1919. Swinnertons produced earthenware dinner and tea sets, floral transferware and government canteen ware. The Lawley Group acquired the business in 1959 and became part of Allied English Potteries in 1964.
The Swinnertons name was still used in 1968; AEP merged with Royal Doulton in 1973.
