Thomas Latham Boote and Richard Boote founded the business at Central Pottery, Burslem, in 1842. They moved to the Kilncroft Works and around 1850 acquired Waterloo Pottery and began tile manufacture. The company made Parian ware, earthenware and ironstone, increasingly concentrating on white ironstone for the American market. Thomas retired in 1879; Richard died in 1891, and the business became a limited company in 1894.
Waterloo closed in 1906 as production concentrated on tiles. Richards Tiles acquired the business in 1963.
