Taylor & Kent manufactured china and majolica at Florence Works, Longton. The source notes conflicting foundation dates: 1867 in Jewitt’s account and 1876 on the factory frontage. The Kent family controlled the business from an early stage. It closed temporarily during the Second World War and was bought by Oswald and Derek Shufflebottom in 1947. The Elizabethan China trade name was used from 1961, and the company became Elizabethan Fine Bone China Ltd in 1982.
