About Taylor, Tunnicliff & Co
Thomas Taylor and William Tunnicliff founded the company in 1867 to make domestic earthenware. It moved from Havelock Works to Eastwood, Hanley, around 1877. Porcelain electrical-insulator production began around 1896 and industrial ceramics dominated by 1898. The business passed to Taylor, Tunnicliff & Co (1901) Ltd, later joining a holding group formed in 1938. Its operating subsidiaries were sold to Allied Insulators in 1959.
The technical ceramics businesses were brought together as Mantec Technical Ceramics Ltd in 2012.
