About Staffordshire William Adams - potter of Tunstall

William Adams manufactured earthenware, basalt, jasper and Parian wares in Tunstall and Stoke. The family traced its pottery history to Brickhouse Potteries, founded by Robert and John Adams in 1657. William Adams & Sons is generally dated from about 1769. Production was consolidated in Tunstall after the Stoke factories closed by 1863.

The business became William Adams and Sons (Potters) Ltd in 1925, was acquired by Wedgwood in 1966, and the Adams brand was phased out by the 1990s.
