About William Brownfield & Son(s)

William Brownfield manufactured earthenware and, from 1871, porcelain at Cobridge. He worked there with other potters from 1836 and alone from 1850. His son William Etches Brownfield joined in 1871. After the founder died in 1873, the name Brownfield & Son continued; by 1876 three brothers were partners and the name became Brownfield & Sons. William Etches left in 1883 and Douglas Harold took over milling in 1886, leaving Edward Arthur in charge of pottery.

The business failed around 1890 and was continued by the Brownfield Guild Pottery Society in 1891.
