William Kent took sole ownership of the former Kent & Parr business in 1894 and renamed its Wellington Street factory Novelty Works. The Burslem firm made Staffordshire figures, dogs, flatback ornaments and other earthenware. The works expanded from two bottle kilns by 1899 to seven by 1937. During World War II decorative ware was suspended in favour of electrical porcelain; the company became William Kent (Porcelains) Ltd toward the end of the war.
