About Wood & Son (s, Ltd)
Wood & Sons was established in Burslem in 1865 by Absalom Wood and his son Thomas Francis Wood. New Wharf Pottery was developed from 1877. The style became Wood & Sons in 1907 and the firm incorporated in 1910. Harry F. Wood became chairman in 1921. The company expanded and acquired other pottery firms, becoming public in 1954. Financial difficulties led to receivership in 1982; Edmund and Norman Yorke continued tableware production under the existing name.
The business closed in 2005.
