Wood, Son & Co manufactured earthenware at Villa Pottery, Cobridge, after James Rathbone left Wood, Rathbone & Co in November 1868. Partners included Absalom Wood, his son Thomas Francis Wood, William Dunn and Enoch Colclough. Dunn and Colclough left in 1877. A Navigation Road site was purchased that year and the firm moved there in 1878–1879 as New Wharf Pottery Co.
