The period of John Wall. Blue drawn marks or marks in mass.
John Wall, William Davis and partners founded the Worcester Tonquin Manufactory in 1751. Robert Hancock developed porcelain printing there in 1756. Thomas Flight bought the factory in 1783; a royal warrant followed in 1788 and Martin Barr became a partner in 1792. Flight and Barr merged with Chamberlain in 1840. Worcester Royal Porcelain Co. formed in 1862, acquired Grainger in 1889 and Hadley & Sons in 1905. The firm merged with Spode in 1976.
After administration in 2008, Portmeirion acquired the brand and intellectual property. Worcester marks used letters, dots and other symbols to identify manufacture years; later printed design dates must be distinguished from those codes. John Wall and William Davis founded Worcester in 1751 and acquired a Bristol factory in 1752. Thomas Flight and his sons bought the works in 1783; Martin Barr joined in 1793.
Robert Chamberlain established a rival works after leaving in 1783. The factories combined in 1852, with Grainger joining in 1889 and Hadley in 1905. Output included tableware, figures, decorative, technical and laboratory porcelain. John Wall, William Davis and other investors founded Worcester's first porcelain factory at Warmstry House in 1751. It initially made soft-paste porcelain. Thomas Flight bought the factory for his sons in 1783, and Martin Barr joined in 1792.
