Symbol guide
A star silver hallmark in the Italian system can sit beside oval fineness wording; the starred punch contains a registry number and province letters.
On Italian silver, look separately for an oval 800 or 925 fineness. Copy the number and both province letters inside the starred registration punch. A standalone star in a different group needs the surrounding national and maker marks.
Copy the sponsor initials and fineness beside the device. If a date letter is present, match its case, lettering and surround to the identified office or national system. Keep each separate punch visible in the comparison photograph.
