What does RGP mean on jewelry

With an RGP stamp, at worn edges the base metal may be visible; a maker signature beside the construction mark identifies the company.

Reading the fraction and karat

12K RGP identifies a 12-karat gold-alloy layer. A fraction such as 1/40 states its proportion of the metal weight. Retain both the fraction and the suffix when copying a watch-chain, bracelet or locket stamp.

What to check next

Compare GF and RGP, which describe mechanically applied layers, with GP and HGE, which describe plating. Look at the entire coating stamp before interpreting a karat number. At worn edges the base metal may be visible; a maker signature beside the construction mark identifies the company.
