DeWalt battery date code

For the DeWalt year-and-week format, the first four digits give the year and the next two give the production week. DeWalt’s example 2017-22-59 means week 22 of 2017; the final characters are separate production information, and batteries have their own code apart from the tool or charger.

Where the code is on a DeWalt battery

Remove the pack from the tool or charger and inspect its top, near the contacts and slide rails. DeWalt shows the date printed directly on that plastic housing. The separate model number is usually underneath and commonly starts DCB. A charger’s date code is on its underside instead. Keep photographs of the complete date string and model label together, since the same kit contains independently marked products.

Read the first six date digits

The current battery-location guide directs the reader to the first six digits. In the photographed black-housing example, 2020 07-49 6-11 has date portion 2020 07: week 07 of 2020. In the yellow-housing example, 2019 25-47 2-1 begins 2019 25: week 25 of 2019. Spaces or dashes separate fields without changing their order. Keep the trailing production characters in the record, while using the four-digit year and two-digit week for the date reading.

The eight-character example 2017-22-59

DeWalt’s general guide describes an eight-character pattern consisting of a four-digit year, two-digit week and two final characters, which may be alphanumeric. Its worked example 2017-22-59 separates into 2017 for year, 22 for week and 59 for the remaining production field. That is compatible with reading the date from the first six digits. It does not make 59 a calendar day, a battery capacity or a universal extra date field. Battery photographs can show additional characters beyond this general example.

Older battery codes need their model context

Not every DeWalt pack has the modern four-digit-year prefix. The CPSC’s DW 9095 notice documents the older four-digit code range 9719–9810, positioned on the top of that 18-volt pack. Its model number is on the bottom nameplate. Keep that shorter legacy format attached to its product family instead of treating 9719 as a four-digit calendar year. Matching an older pack against its original documentation gives a more useful result than applying a current format to every generation.

Battery, tool and charger dates

A charger sold beside a battery has its own date stamp. The manufacturer’s comparison photograph shows charger code 202050, read as week 50 of 2020, separately from the two battery examples. Read the tool housing as another individual component. None of these codes gives the purchase date or the battery’s remaining capacity. A week stamp also carries no day-of-month value. Keep model, date and any serial information in separate fields when identifying a pack.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the DeWalt battery date code?

Look on top of the battery housing near the charging contacts and slide rails. The model label is usually underneath; the charger has its own underside code.

How do I read a DeWalt battery manufacturing date?

In the modern year/week format, read four year digits and then two week digits.2020 07 is week 07 of 2020; preserve any trailing production characters separately.

What does 2017-22-59 mean?

In DeWalt’s general example, it means production week 22 of 2017.59 is the separate final production field.

Does the charger date code date the battery?

No. Each component has its own stamp. Read the battery housing to date the pack.
