A Britannia silver mark differs from EPBM, which names electroplated tin-based Britannia metal; the seated figure belongs to the British assay group.
The seated Britannia figure is a traditional British standard mark. A millesimal 958 states the purity numerically. Read it with the sponsor and assay-office punches; it identifies a different silver standard from the 925 lion-passant tradition.
Britannia metal is a tin-based alloy used beneath silver plating. EPBM therefore means electroplated Britannia metal, not 958 silver. Keep the whole phrase when comparing a worn teapot or candlestick base.
