Indian silver hallmarks

Among Indian silver hallmarks, a jeweller’s logo, design number or local place name is separate from the BIS silver identification.

Distinctive marks and standards

The standard lists 800, 835, 925, 958, 970, 990 and 999 grades. The purity number gives parts silver per thousand; the HUID identifies the hallmarked article. Older silver hallmarks can have a different arrangement.

What to check next

Copy the HUID with its purity number and compare the result in BIS Care. A jeweller’s logo, design number or local place name is separate from the BIS silver identification.
