Dutch silver hallmarks

Dutch silver hallmarks can include Minerva control devices and local date letters; a Dutch maker’s work may also carry later import punches.

Distinctive marks and standards

A numeric standard such as 835 or 925 states silver content. Dutch letter marks and Minerva control devices belong to their own system; a lion is not automatically a British sterling mark.

What to check next

Compare the lion’s posture and the surrounding punches. Keep the maker initials and any date letter separate from the fineness. A Dutch maker can appear on an object also bearing later import marks.
