Millefiori paperweight identification
In millefiori paperweight identification, a letter or date cane is a separate identification feature. A polished base alone is not a factory signature.
Canes and their arrangement
Each cane has a cross-section design, and the arrangement can form concentric rings, garlands or scattered patterns. A letter or date cane is a separate identification feature. A date within the design should be compared with the maker’s known cane forms.
What to check next
Photograph the top, side and base. Distinguish a genuine internal cane from lettering etched on the base, and compare the complete cane arrangement with the glasshouse’s other weights. A polished base alone is not a factory signature.

……………………………..Brand name embossed across the face of certain fruit jars, these were evidently made by John Gayner/Gayner Works, Salem, N.J. (1885-1898/1898-1937) and Cumberland Works (or Company) /Cumberland Manufacturing Co., Bridgeton, New Jersey (1882-1896/1896-1920). The trademark “ ” (#43288) was said to have been in use starting in September, 1903, according to trademark documents. (Info from Alice Creswick’s The Fruit Jar Works, Vol. 1, 1995). Handmade blue “Bluebird of Happiness” paperweight / figurine, this particular example signed (engraved) on base “ ”.

G G W (monogram, with the second “G” somewhat larger and overlapping the first “G” and the “W”). Gayner Works, Salem, New Jersey (1898-1937), later Gayner Company (1937-1975 – but under National Bottle Corporation ownership 1957-1975). Monogram, accompanying this manufacturer’s name and city, seen on an advertising paperweight, reported to me by Bob Berkley, date of manufacture unknown.
