Read the stamp
A 333 gold stamp may sit beside ITALY origin wording. GF denotes a bonded gold layer; GP describes gold plating over another metal.
8K or 333 is an 8-karat gold standard. It contains one third gold, with other metals making up the rest of the alloy. Common combinations include 8K 333 and 333 ITALY. Look inside a ring shank or on a chain clasp or end tag.
Keep suffixes attached to the number: 8K GF describes a gold-filled layer and 8K GP a plated layer. A plain 333 fineness mark describes the gold alloy. On a chain, inspect the links as well as the clasp because a replacement clasp can carry its own stamp.
